Catherine Winder has worked as both an executive,
and producer in feature film, home video and television animation. Her
background in development as well as production with talent and studios from
around the world has given her a rare global expertise in the field of
animation. Currently, Winder is running her own consulting business that
focuses on both the creative and business needs of the animation industry. She
works as a coach with independent producers to help prepare their properties to
pitch and market. She also works with larger clients and venture capitalists in
the areas of production planning and business strategy and development. In
addition to her consulting work, Winder is in development on several feature
film and television projects.
Previously in her position as Senior Vice
President, Production for Fox Feature Animation, Winder oversaw creative
development and physical production of the studio's 2D and 3D CGI projects. She
was integrally involved in the transformation of Fox's Blue Sky Studio from a
special effects and commercials house into a 3D CGI feature studio. She was
responsible for production oversight of the box office success Ice Age.
Winder co-authored "Producing Animation" for Focal Press. This book is
the first of its kind to describe all the various steps undertaken to sell,
develop and produce an animated property for the commercial market. Through
this book she co-created the first of its kind standardized animation chart of
accounts called the "Animation Budget Builder". To be used for traditional, CGI
and hybrid productions.
Winder started her animation career in Asia
working for Walt Disney Television Japan on such popular shows as Tale Spin,
and Gummi Bears. She then worked as an Animation Consultant for the British
Columbia Motion Picture Association. During this time, Winder conducted a study
to develop the animation industry in Western Canada traveling to Europe to
develop contacts for independent studios in British Columbia.
Returning
to Asia to work for Hanna-Barbera/Turner Pictures in Taiwan, she acted as the
Overseas Production Manager on the feature film, Once Upon A Forest. She then
moved to Los Angeles to continue working for Hanna-Barbera/Turner, where as
Senior Director of Production, she was responsible for their Taiwan and
Philippine based production studios. Additionally, she oversaw all domestic and
international production of specials, made for TV movies, television series and
shorts at studios in Argentina, Australia, Canada, the Philippines, Taiwan,
Japan and Korea. Some of her credits during this tenure include the original
animated pilots for the Cartoon Network's Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo and The
Power Puff Girls.
Winder began her producing career at Colossal
Pictures, where she produced the critically acclaimed MTV primetime series Aeon
Flux. In 1995, Winder co-founded an animation studio for HBO to produce late
night programming for an adult audience. As Vice President of HBO Animation,
she was responsible for overseeing the studio's production, development as well
as its day to day operations. During her tenure, she produced Spawn, based on
the best selling comic book created by Todd McFarlane and Spicy City, created
by veteran animator Ralph Bakshi.
Winder graduated from The University
of Western Ontario, Canada with a B.A. in History. Originally from Toronto,
Canada, Winder and her family currently reside Studio City, California.
